a new world requires new ways of telling stories
Forward was born out of a desire to put cinema at the service of social justice and the defense of human rights in the Global South. It was founded simultaneously in Brazil and Colombia in 2012, and today it has offices in Bogotá, São Paulo, and Girona (Spain).
In our view, the best documentaries change people’s understanding, encourage reflection, and, above all, inspire meaningful action and debate about today’s most pressing issues.
However, that’s not all. It is crucial that social impact cinema distinguish itself not only with its results, but also with its forms and methods.
For documentary to be a powerful tool for defending rights, practices must be rethought. It is essential to produce with precision, accuracy, and strategy, particularly in contexts of information overload. At all stages of production, diversity, safety, sustainability, and accessibility protocols must be implemented, along with strengthening networks of solidarity and protection locally and internationally.
production for action
We work with NGOs, social movements, and other organizations to create social impact films and strategies. It means formulating, producing, and disseminating documentaries and audiovisual campaigns that contribute to the political and institutional objectives of our partners.
The company also produces independent documentaries, always focused on bringing new perspectives to urgent public policy issues, while connecting people, institutions, and media.
how we classify our work
Documentaries
Documentaries help us investigate, document, denounce, and raise the political cost of human rights violations, promote empowerment for vulnerable populations, and approach complex issues through the lens of individual experiences.
Mobilisation
We use audiovisual campaigns to enhance communication and advocacy strategies, inform and sensitize audiences, pressure authorities and policy makers, and raise funds for causes and organizations.
Institutional videos
Videos that document, disseminate, and strengthen the work of non-governmental organizations, social movements, and public agencies.
